EMB1412: VEE Rating

Part Number: EMB1412
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC5350

Hi Team,

Just a little clarification on the VEE rating for EMB1412. The abs max rating table shows a rating of IN_REF-VEE of 5V max. However, section 7.1 of the datasheet mentions that VEE pin supply can range from IN_REF potential to as low as 14V below Vcc. Using 14V VEE below Vcc for example would exceed the max abs max rating of IN_REF-VEE.

Our customer would wish to use it for -10V VEE operations. Can you help us clarify which would be the correct recommended working conditions for VEE?

Thanks in advance!

Kind Regards,

Jejomar

  • Hi, Jejomar,

There are two ratings here. One is saying that basically the maximum voltage that should be applied from Vcc to Vee is 14V.

The other is saying that Vee can’t be more than 5V below IN_REF.

So, if we call IN_REF the system ground potential, that means VEE can be -5V and VCC thus can only be +9V.

And, keep in mind that -5V is an absolute maximum voltage, so I would back off that a bit.

One of our isolated gate drivers, UCC5350 is more flexible in this area, so I would suggest your customer looks at that part to see if it wouldn’t be a better fit for their application.

    Best regards,

    Don
