BQ25171-Q1: controlled constant current source for battery charging

Part Number: BQ25171-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2002, LM3410,

Hi Team,

I got the following question from my customer. Can you please advise:

We are looking for a possibility to charge 4 NiMH cells from a 5V USB supply voltage. The device is connected to a USB-C socket, USB connection to the µC exists. In one of our devices, we have built up the charging circuit via BQ2002 with an additional adjustable constant current source. Would it be conceivable to use the circuit in this way and to use a LM3410 as a controllable constant current source, for example? Can you recommend alternatives that I should take a look at? Key data: Supply voltage: USB-C, approx. 5VDC, charging current 0.5 – 1A (we have to define more precisely) Batteries: 4 NiMH in series

Thanks

Jan
