TPS51215A: Equation for inductor and ripple current on datasheet

Guru 19555 points
Part Number: TPS51215A

Datasheet P16 is described about inductor and ripple current.

Example case is described 25%, but equation is using "×0.4".

If there any reason or background for above difference, please let me know.

Best regards,

Satoshi

  • Hi Satoshi,

I do believe the datasheet contains a typo in the example outlined on page 16. In this example, 0.4*30=12A for the inductor ripple current, so the inductor value is calculated assuming the inductor ripple current is actually 40% of the full load output current. In our designs, we typically recommend the inductor ripple current be between 10% and 40% of the output current level for a balanced design (in the case of this part the 25%-50% recommendation is also acceptable).

I apologize for any confusion, and I will work with the appropriate product owners to address this fix.

    Regards,
