UCC256404: Will UCC256404 be a good choice for 220VAC to 48V/30V DC voltage conversion?

Hi team,

My customer wants to develop the power module to convert 220VAC voltage to 48VDC (6A) and 30VDC (9.5A). It is for elevator main control boards.

I am wondering whether UCC256404 is the most suitable solution to achieve this application. Or do you have any other devices to recommend?

They want to use ST MCU to do the digital control, while the topology has not been determined yet.

Will appreciate if you can provide the reference design if any. Thanks.

There are several parts in family of UCC25640X: UCC256402/03/04.

Regarding to the spec you listed, UCC25640X is the most suitable analog solution from TI. if customer require HV start, UCC256402 is recommended, Otherwise, UCC256403 is recommended.

HV start means high voltage startup, then the Aux power is not needed in system.

Hi Yunsheng,

Customer is also considering utilizing Webench to realize this application via UCC28600 with flyback topology.

May I know what our recommended topology between flyback and LLC? And what solution should we promote to customer, both OK or you prefer UCC25640X, and why? Thanks!

Flyback is for low power, it normally can support <150W. Because the peak current of primary of Flyback is very high with 48V/30A, it is hard to select Primary MOSFET and design transformer.

LLC is the most suitable solution for 48V/30A, I still promote LLC with UCC25640X here.

Hi Yunsheng,

Thanks for your recommendation. Actually the output is 48V, 6A or 30VDC, 9.5A. So the output power will not become so high, around 300W.

I have also seen such material that flyback is normally for low power. So for 300W output, you still recommend LLC converter, is that correct? Thanks.

Actually I have another question which might also be related to your team.

My customer wants to convert 24V to isolated 48V (6A). They think that the UCC28085 can cover this application. But actually seems that the boost controller LM5156 can also achieve isolated fly-back topology. Do you have some insights on which kind of products will be more suitable for this application? Thanks.
