TPS22992: Parallel Load Switch configuration - Prevent Body Diode reverse current

Part Number: TPS22992
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22917, TPS22916, TPS22948

Hi Team,

How can an implementation of parallel load switches with common outputs be configured to remove issue of reverse body diode currents?

  • Do we have another device to solve this issue with body diode?
  • Any other recommendation on layout?

Please find example block diagram of configuration below.

Issue would be if Vin 1 or 2 is supplying current while the other input is off. Then the body diode will saturate and source the second input.

KR,

Lucas

  • Hello Lucas,

In order to use load switches to power mux you'll need to use devices with reverse current protection such as TPS22916, TPS22917, TPS22948, etc. I've linked the product folder below with RCP device filter.

There are two types of reverse current protection. One type is always enabled, and the other is enabled when the device is disabled (ON pin low for active high devices). The second link provided will explain in more detail how to use load switches to power mux.
