TPS63000: Power save mode

Hi,

We have a design using TPS63000 with light load. We want to use the power save mode to gain the efficiency as we are using battery as input source. However, we didn't see any improvement after enabling the power save mode. Is there a way to check whether it gets enable correctly? We measured the same current consumption with and without power save mode enable.

Hi Austen,

thank you for considering use TI's device.

you can find they are very different in your switching node between PWM and PSM. like the picture below(PSM).

PSM has pause time between swtiching obviously.

Hi Tao,

I confirmed that the switching node was at PSM when power save mode was enabled. However, I didn't see any improvement in efficiency. In fact, the efficiency PWM mode seems to be very similar to PSM when I tried with 30mA load and 90mA load.

Do you have any official efficiency data on the TPS63000? The datasheet showed only the TPS63001 and TPS63002.

Hi Austen,

i am sorry i can not find the efficiency date of TPS63000 too.

yeah, that is right, PSM is designed espicially for really light load, such as XuA. so during mA load, in some case, you will get worse efficiency performance with PSM
