TPL7407L: output short issue

Hi team，

My customer use TPL7407L in their project, and they met below issue, could you please help give some comments or suggestions?

The customer connect 5V or 12V relay in the output pin, and occasionally the output short-circuiting to ground occurs.

The customer suspects that the output voltage may be out of range of -0.3-42V in some cases, but they have difficulty capturing this waveform. The customer has used ULN2803A in previous projects and has not experienced an output short circuit.
Could you please help give some comments about the short issue based on you experience, and may I ask that is we have some protect circuit suggestions?

    Hello Ivy,

    It is never recommended to operate our devices outside of ABS values. What information on the transient that pushes the device outside of ABS do they have? Can you provide a schematic? It’ll be difficult to make suggestions without more information on the load and expected transients.
