LM5118: Purpose of SYNC pin

Hi Team,

What exactly is the purpose of the SYNC pin on the LM5118 ? I have 2 ideas in mind, I am waiting for your support on this issue

1- getting different outputs from 2 different LM5118s using an external signal ?

2- By connecting the LM5118s in parallel, the output voltages are the same and the output current is increased , For example, is it possible to set the outputs of 2 LM5118s as 24V/5A and connect them to each other with SYNC pins and make a common output 24V /10A?

Hi Ali,

thank you for using the E2E forum.

The second is the intended usage of this pin. When feeding in this pin you should have a 180 Degree phase shift when using two LM5118 so that they run interleaved.

Is there any documentation you can reference that has such a use of the LM5118? Or do you have any resource ICs or documents you can recommend that I can reference for doing this 180 degree phase shift?

this PMP is build with a different controller but uses the SYNC to phase shift the two controllers
