UCC5870-Q1 :UCC5870-Q1

Part Number: UCC5870-Q1

Hello

I have a problem that I encounter to perform some DC tests of the UCC5870 driver.

After carefully performing the test configuartion, indicate in the EVM user’s guide. We are not able to display the signals generated by the GUI test softwrae.

I am very afraid that it is the MCU board that causes the high current consumption(see attached). Do you think this problem may be from the MCU bord?  If so, can a PWM be applied directly to the IN+ and IN- inputs from an external frequency generator?

Thanks

Amadou

  • Hi Amadou,

Our expert will reach out tomorrow. Thank you!

  • Hi Amadou,

The current drawn without the MCU board connected is correct. One the MCU is connected the current draw should increase, but you are seeing over 2x typical current draw(Typical current draw = ~65mA; not switching) pointing towards the problem being in the MCU board.

The MCU board is to be able to communicate with the driver using SPI. An external function generator can be used to input PWM signals directly to IN+ and IN-, but the GUI is necessary due to the way UCC5870-Q1 powers up. UCC5870-Q1 powers up into configuration mode. SPI communication is necessary to configure the driver and to send the commands needed to transition from the Configuration State to Active State. The gate driver output will only follow the PWM input when in the Active State.

    • Was any testing done with the boards or is this the behavior of the boards at the first power up when taken out of the box?
    • Would you happen to have another MCU board you could test with?

    Best regards,

    Andy Robles

  • Hello Andy,

    • Indeed, several tests have been carried out on this UCC5870q1 board and I also confirm compliance of the results during these preliminary tests.
    • Unfortunately no, I only have an MCU board and an EVM board to test. Is it possible to get another one?

    Kind Regards,

    Amadou

  • Hi Amadou,

We can for sure get you another board. I will go ahead and close this thread since we do have an email thread covering this topic. Please reply to the email so we can get the order placed as soon as possible.

    Best regards,

    Andy Robles
