UCC27211: Questions about UCC27211

Part Number: UCC27211

Hello,

I would like to ask you a question regarding UCC27211.
(Question 1)
Is 6MHz and 7MHz switching operation possible?
(Question 2)
The bootstrap diode is built-in, but is it possible to connect the diode from the outside?

Best regards,

  • Hello,

Thank you for your question. Yes, it is possible to have an external bootstrap diode in parallel with the internal one if needed, for example for high switching frequencies and small pulse widths applications. A common practice is to add a resistor (e.g. 2 ohm) in series with the external diode to be able to limit the current if needed. Please see an example in the EVM user's guide: https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluubj7/sluubj7.pdf

Regarding the switching frequency, we don't specify a maximum switching frequency. From the driver's point if view, what matters is that the driver is able to dissipate the power generated from switching at those frequencies, meaning that the device temperature doesn't go beyond the recommended operating junction temperature maximum.

You may refer to the bootstrap calculator here to estimate the power dissipation: Half Bridge Calculator.xlsx.

    Best regards,

    Leslie
