TPS542A50: PMBUS compatability

The TPS542A50 device  is only I2C.    The TPS542A50EVM uses the fusion digital gui.

The fets resistances are lower on the TPS542A50 and the switching frequency and temp range higher.  

There are no PMBUS commands supported on TPS542A50.

I2C is a communication protocol. I2C communication uses two wires, Serial Data Line (SDA) and Serial Clock Line (SCL).

SMBus is based on the I2C protocol. SMBus uses the I2C physical layer, ie,  the two-wire interface, device addressing, start and stop conditions etc.

PMBus is another protocol, based on SMBus.  PMBus is an extension of SMBus which is a more efficient way to communicate to power devices. PMBus defines a set a commands and data structures required power devices.

PMBus supports configuring, controlling, monitoring and fault management of power devices.

 An I2C enabled power device may allow configuring and controlling of a device, but the set of commands and data structure will be defined by the device manufacturer.
