UCC27511: The possibility of driving p-channel MOSFET

Part Number: UCC27511

Hi expert,

My customer is designing with UCC27511. My customer tries to use UCC27511 as a high side gate driver.

Therefore, UCC27511 has to drive p-channel MOSFET.

Is it possible that UCC27511 drive p-channel MOSFET?

If it is not possible, could you recommend any gate drivers that can drive p-channel MOSFET?

Best regards,

Shunsuke Yamamoto

  • Hi Shunsuke,

  • Hello Yamamoto-san,

We have an FAQ on driving P-channel MOSFETs linked here. To summarize, the UVLO features of our drivers pull the output to GND when the voltage falls below the threshold, which is usually the opposite of what is desired for PMOS. We have one driver called LM5111-4 which supports a high UVLO for PMOS purposes. Besides the UVLO issue, any driver should work.

There are other options for driving high-side switches such as half-bridge drivers, charge pumps, and floating power supplies which can all be used to drive a high-side NMOS instead of using PMOS. These are typically more popular, which is why there are less options for driving PMOS.

Anyways, it seems like LM5111-4 may be what your customer is looking for. Feel free to follow-up with any more questions.

    Thanks,

    Alex M.
