TPSM84424: what is the benefit of Open-Frame power module?

I'd like to know the reason TPSM84424 uses Open-Frame package.

Some previous generation power module which has similar spec (like LMZ31704) is using QFN.

What is the main benefit of Open-Frame package?

Hi Go,

The major benefit of open frame package is that a direct access to the top of the inductor for potential heat transfer and switching node waveform measurement. Please refer to apps note for detail.

Hi Go,

Yes, I agree with you. Open frame package should have advantage in a cost point of view compared to a molding package since there is no molding compound encapsulating process.
