TPS65381A-Q1: VDD6 maximum output current and thermal performance

Part Number: TPS65381A-Q1

Dear,

In TPS65381A-Q1 datasheet, VDD6 maximum output current is 1.5A, which is the load current from VDD5, VDD3/5, VDD1 and VSOUT1 on VDD6 regulator. And Peak current out of SDN6 pin is 2.5A.

But If I use VDD6 to power a load directly, how larger the output current it can offer? If the maximum load current is 2.5A, adding 1.5A from VDD5 etc., the output current from VDD6 is 4A. Can we use TPS65381 for this kind of application?

If VDD6 can power 4A load, if there is a potential risk of triggering Over-temp protection?

Thanks

BRs

  • Hello Kian,

I will have to look into this tomorrow and will send you a response by Wednesday.

    Regards,

  • Hi Alex,

Thanks for your reply. Waiting for your answer on Wednesday. It's important to me.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Kian,

Table 4.5 covers all of the current specifications for the regulators of this device. The VDD6 pre-regulator can support 1.3A output current, VDD5 can support 300mA output current, VDD3/5 can support 300mA output current, and VSOUT1 can support 100mA output current. The device is not able to support current levels above these values for each regulator.

One important thing to note is that the load current from VDD3/5, VDD5, and VSOUT1 is being drawn for VDD6 so any current consumption on those regulators will be included in the current consumption of VDD6.

    Best regards,

    Layne J
