TPS62932: Ok to implement a flybuck ?

Genius 16485 points
Part Number: TPS62932
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62933F, TPS54308

Hi all

My customer is using the TPS62932 in a standard buck configuration.

They also have to implement a 2nd isolated supply with these specs:

Vin= 12V ... 28V, Vout=5V, Iout=100mA

They have this question:

Can they use the TPS62932 in a flybuck configuration ?

Looking at the datasheet I find the TPS62933F is listed as having an FCCM but I am not sure if this means the device can be used as a flybuck.

If not:

What device can you suggest ?

Best regards

Ueli

  • Hi Ue,

  • Hi Ueli

    It depends on the output condition of the application. Firstly, you may choose the ratio of the primary turns VS secondary turns for the transformer and then consider the primary inductor current using secondary current, primary load current and the ratio. If the inductor current would not have negative value, it is ok to use a ECO mode device. But if it has negative value, you must use a FCCM device like TPS62933F and consider the valley current not exceed NOC of the device.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Ruby

    Thank you for these comments and agreed, I would also think that one must use the TPS62933F to implement a Flybuck.

    Do you have a reference design that the customer could use as a starting point for:

    Vin= 12V ... 28V, Vout=5V, Iout=100mA

    .... or other helpful collateral for implementing a Flybuck with the TPS62933F ?

    Best regards

  • Hi Ueli

    Please see the app note of TPS54308 first. The app note of TPS62933F will be released in Dec.

  • Hi Ruby

    Thank you for pointing to the app not.

    I am also looking forward to the same for the TPS62933F.

    Best regards
