LMG3410R050: Common-Source Configuration

Part Number: LMG3410R050

Hi Team, seeking for some inputs.

Topology is going to be a common-source bidirectional switch. Then, I don't have a low-side or high-side switch. The datasheet specifies those requirements for a half-bridge. Since I am going to connect the GaN switches in a common-source configuration, do I need to have that external isolator(s) for the bidirectional switch as well? If yes, how many? One isolator for each switch?

Thank you.

  • Hello,

I haven't seen GaN ever used for a bidirectional switch before, so my answers come strictly from theory. For the most part, it seems like the parts would not need isolators except for some extreme cases such as propagation delay and slight mismatch. If there is a small delay in signals to the two gates, I could foresee a level shift issue come into play. While the normal steady-state theory seems to work okay without level shifters, I'm not sure I would recommend building without them just to be safe.

    Regards,

    Zach
