TPS27SA08: A question how to use TPS27SA08 for current sensing.

Part Number: TPS27SA08

Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering using TPS27SA08C for their new products.
They have the following question. Could you please give me your reply for them?

Q. We want to limit the output current less than 4A. Is the following procedure no problem?

    1. Monitor SNS terminal input current with load current monitor mode (EN = H, DIA_EN = H, SEL1 = L, SEL2 = L).
    2. When the output current is exceeds 4A, change EN level from "H" to "L".
    3. Wait a few ms.
    4. Change EN level from "L" to "H".
    5. go back to No.1.

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Kazuya..

  • Hi Kazuya,

This way would work. However, one catch here is the device will have 180us delay time from EN from L to H from step 4, and depending on the inductance, the current might exceed 4A by next time the device is turned off if the overcurrent event still exists. It's better to validate this case with the bench setup and make sure the peak current meets the requirements.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Regards,

    Yichi
