TPS65988DK: TPS65988DK PDO assignment problem

Part Number: TPS65988DK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982DMC,
  • Hi Ti Engineer,

  • I am building a TBT4 device based on Gorilla Creek TI88. I have set the PDO to 5V/3A-9V/3A-15V/3A-20V/4.9A in TI's configuration tool, but when testing it,
  • The information obtained by the test equipment is 5V/5A-9V/5A-15V/5A-20V-4.9A,
  • which is wrong with the configuration information. Can you tell what caused the problem? Attached is the configuration screenshot and captured PDO information.

  • Hi Tienger, the above problem has been found to be a DMC management problem, may I ask where I can adjust the OCP current value of 20V/4.9A?

  • Hi Lian,

    Thank you for reaching out!

I am looking into this and will get back to you by the end of the week.

    Best Regards,

    Aya Khedr

  • Hi Lian,

You can adjust the OCP current value by adjusting the peak current in transmit source/sink capabilities as shown in the image below. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Best Regards,

    Aya

  • Hi Aya,

    • I have two questions altogether

Question 1: One is to set the OCP Current value. According to what you said, set the Peak Current value of PDO. No matter how I set 100%-130%-150%-200%, there is no improvement. Now I need to reduce the OCP current value. The current test has reached 5.2A, and I need to modify the protection within 5A.

Question 2: One is the PDO protocol problem. I set the PDO information as 5V/3A-9V/ 3a-15V / 3a-20V /4.9A in the tool, but the actual test is 5V/5A-9V/5A-15V/5A-20V/4.9A. Since the configuration information is 3A, the exported VIF file also shows 3A. This is inconsistent with the actual test information, resulting in the test certification problem.

My design is based on TBT4 device based on Gorilla Creek TI88. This architecture is made up of TPS65982DMC+TPS65988DK+TPS65982DMC. I doubt that it has something to do with TPS65982DMC, which manages the power supply of the whole system. If Enable PD Power ManageMent is disabled in TPS65982DMC firmware configuration, then the PO communication protocol of TPS65988DK will conform to the actual set 5V/3A-9V/3A-15V/3A-20V/4.9A PDO value. Could you please investigate the cause of this and how I can fix it?

  • Hi Aya,

I have seen in the specification of TPS65988D that OCP can be set in the firmware, as shown in the attached picture. May I ask where it is located in tool? I haven't found this window yet.

    Thank you for your support.

  • Hi Lian,

Let me look into this further and get back to you by Wednesday. Thank you for your patience.

    Best Regards,

    Aya

    • Hi Aya, can you send me your email?

  • Hi Lian,

Thank you for your patience. I need to have an expert take a look into this but unfortunately he is going to be out for the next week. I will prioritize this as soon as he is back. Please let me know if you have additional questions in the meantime.

    Best Regards,

    Aya
