Thanks for your support about TUSB544. I have communicated with customer the application of TUSB544, and there are also some question.

application: used on smart phone USB port to increase signal. The USB port will automatic recognition the USB mode or DP mode by display link

question:

1.if don't use our redriver, the USB port will automatic recognition the USB mode or DP mode by display link, how to do the automatic recognition while use TUSB544. Dose it work through HPDIN pin and CC1 CC2? Is the HPDIN used to switch DP an USB? How the HPDIN pin work, can it connect with a normal GPIO of TYPE C PD CONTROLLER?

2. I find the CTLSEL Register can configure the USB mode and DP mode enable. if the value is 0x10, is it meaning only can be use at DP mode? How to configure this Register while at the scenario of the USB and DP switch by display link?

Hi,

In the block diagram, does the phone USB interface is a Type-C port that can support USB and DP Alt Mode?

Are they trying to design TUSB544 into an active cable between the phone and the display with Type-C plug on both ends?

Hi David

It's a Type C port which can support USB and DP, they try to use TUSB544 only for signal enhance between the phone and the display with Type-C plug on both ends.

I want to add two more question from customer.

1 If I enable and config tusb544 when the usb cable connected( in the code detecting the usb ) instead of before cable connect, the usb3.0 function is not OK, why?

2 If we use i2c mode, anything such as flip config or usb3.1/dp change must be judged and handled by software manually? Can't it auto flip or auto change according to the actually usb or dp connect action ?

3 All are controlled by hw using gpio mode instead of I2C mode can meet our demand?

4 To DP function, if flip config time is later than otg mode recoginzed, Is there any problem with the time sequence for the DP?

Hi,

You would need a TUSB1044 with a PD controller at both end of the Type-C plug. One PD controller will negotiate with the phone and 2nd PD controller will negotiate with the display through the CC1/2 line and then configure the TUSB1044 accordingly.
