TPS25990: Can't connect to the device through cloud agent. Fusion Designer now stops working after Cloud agent installed

Part Number: TPS25990
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53688, , , TPS40400EVM-351, USB-TO-GPIO2

After I connected USB2GPIO (2022) dongle to my board, I tried to connect TI cloud agent to the device, it said  (Hardware not connected).

The worse part is that Fusion Designer now stops working.  I used to be able to connect to the TPS53688 with fusion, and now it takes forever to detect the device and eventually timeout and no devices detected.

I tried

1) unplugging the dongle

2) reboot PC

3) remove the cloud agent,

None of the above works.

  • Hi Jun,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Are you using this dongle?

Can you please try to connect this TPS25990GUI?

What's the version of your Fusion GUI? I am using 7.9.1 and not seeing any issue while communicating with both Fusion GUI and TPS25990GUI.

  • Hi, Avishek,

yes, I am usng USB2GPIO dongle 2022.  I tried 1.0.0 TPS25990GUI, and same issue. can't connect to hardware.

I tried both Chrome and Edge.

I also saw  "Can not open serial port COM6" message now.  COM6 is the serial port used by the dongle.  Not sure why it can't be opened. I googled it, and didn't get much help.

    I am using fusion 7.9.1.

During device  scanning, Fusion 7.9.1 stops responding, and I have to kill it.

  • I tried two laptops, one with win10 and one with win 11. Now both are broken. The fusion 7.9.1 on both machines used to work. Now they both stop working

  • Ok. I disabled and re-enabled usb xHC on my PC, and that solves the Fusion issue. Now Fusion is working now.  at least that tells me the dongle, cable and board are working fine. But I still can't get to TPS25990.

  • But this time, it's just Hardware not Connected message. No more Can not open Serial port com6" and the error message comes up right after I click the "connect" button.

  • The I2C bus is common for both the TPS25990 GUI and the Fusion GUI. The Fusion GUI does many high frequency transactions on the bus at a time. Hence, both GUIs can't be accessed simultaneously. I have experienced this issue multiple times. The work around is to stop the Fusion GUI communication with respective controller devices by clicking on "Stop Polling". Then it is required to communicate with the TPS25990 GUI by clicking on this below icon.

  • Yes, I am aware of that. I can tell you this. Even after I deleted Fusion, I still can't connect to the USB2GPIO dongle.

  • Also, if I connect to the old dongle (2006), I can run Fusion fine.  But once I switched to USB2GPIO 2022, Fusion stops working (hang during device scanning) and of course, CloudAgent can't connect to the device either (with Fusion not even running)

On a separate pc (running win11), I was able to get fusion working on the new dongle after I disabled/re-enabled the xHC controller.

  • This issue is not only related to the TPS25990 GUI, but also Fusion. I have requested your TI field applications engineer to schedule a meeting with you, the Fusion GUI apps engineer and myself to understand the issue.

  • Hi Jun,

We tested TPS40400EVM-351 with TPS25990EVM by connecting the SCL and SDA lines of the respective EVM's together. Using a single USB-TO-GPIO2 USB interface adapter evaluation module, my PC can interact with both GUIs, Fusion GUI and TPS25990 GUI. However, communication between the two GUIs won't happen simultaneously. We can communicate with one GUI at a time. As an example, in order to communicate with the TPS25990 GUI, the Fusion GUI should be made "Stop Polling".
