TPS565242: TPS565242 WEBENCH

Part Number: TPS565242

Hi Team,

The Webench link is the following:

https://webench.ti.com/power-designer/switching-regulator/customize/25?noparams=0

from an input voltage of 12V at 12.5A, I would like to have an output of 6V at 3A with a buck converter.

Questions are:

  • Which package is suitable for capacitors and resistor? In the bill of materials it advices to use packages of 0805 and 0603 which are pretty small…
  • The schematic from the datasheet (https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps565242.pdf?ts=1684051872056 page 14 under “Typical Application”) it differs from the webench. Is the zener necessary? How are the resistor R4 and R3 calculated?  They differs from the webench tool.
  • What is the maximum input current tollarated?

Thank you.

  • Hi Mark!

    1. 0805 and 0603 is the most common selection in such lower power DC-DC. You can also choose other bigger package such as 1206, 1210.

2.Zener diode is not necessary. For R3,R4 calculation, you just need to make sure the VIN*R4/(R4+R3)<5.5V and VIN*R4/(R4+R3)> the rising threshold of enable.

    3. For this kind of DC-DC, you just need to keep the input current can provide the enough power, you don't need to consider the tollarated. For your 6V,3A output, the input current should be higher than VOUT*IOUT/VIN/efficiency. Keep some margin, 2A is enough.
