Hi,

Is the TPS65910 EEPROM programmable outside of the factory? We have a couple of designs that require altering the available default settings of the module, but it's not clear if we can develop an adaptor to program the EEPROM at (our) factory in order to customize the timings. Is this possible?

EEPROM has to be programmed in factory, you cannot change this with any external setup.

so what u mean the EEPROM is inside the TPS65910?so if i wanna use it to power the AM3352 ,the EEPROM configuration is already prorammed in the TPS65910?

Hello,

That's right. The EEPROM configuration of TPS65910Ax device allows you to power AM335x processor. You will boot on boot1boot0=[10].

Hello,

We are currently using the TPS65910AA1 to startup an AM3359, using the default eeprom settings taht require a push action switch to turn the power sequence on/off. We have another project which requires the power sequence to start immediately, ie does not require the push action switch. We think we have a problem in that the eeprom settings for the AM335x has VMBHI_IT_MSK set to 1, whereas for this application we need it to be 0 to enable the device automatic switch on.

As the eeprom is not writable outside the factory, is there any other alternative means of providing the same automatic switch on capability for the TPS65910AA1/AM335x pairing? Or do we have to generate the required pulse (normally provided by the push button) by other means?

Update: we've found a way to circumvent the default eeprom settings requiring a push button and have simulated this on our existing system which is identical to the EVM for AM335x. Solution is to short out the push button to pull PWRON low permanently - this causes the startup process to begin as soon as external power is applied to the TPS65910. We also have to disable the PWRON_LP_OFF bit in DEVCTRL2_REG in early bootcode to prevent the long press mechanism from switching off the power 6-8 seconds later.

Hellow Stuart,

I have the same issue now. I'm developing board with TPS65910 and AM335x on it. As reference i got AM335x kit with power on button. And now need to figure out how to exclude button and make system power on right after it is powered on.

If i understand your post, you modified EEPROM inside TPS65910?? How you did it.

I am also interested to know that, is the EEPROM registers changes are possible through AM335x? after one time booting through default settings?

In the end we made a hardware change - if you provide an external supply to the TPS659xx it eliminates the need for a pushbutton. It seems that the VRTC supplied by the TPS659xx does not provide enough current to power on the AM335x processor early on in the power on sequence, hence the need for a further button press to complete the cycle.

Providing an external VRTC source will allow the AM335x to boot and bypass the need for a pushbutton.

What is the case if I am not using internal RTC of Processor or PMIC.

At what point of time I have to do EEPROM setting and how?

Sorry, I don't know about the case where you're not using the VDDS_RTC. We wired up our PMIC and Processor as per the TI guide.

The EEPROM setting I mentioned in an earlier post is no longer changed with the hardware modification I described.

if the VRT from the PMIC is not used then from PMIC stand point you d ont have to do anything, you just need to have 2.2uf cap on VRTC LDO , that should be enough.

Is it required to connect VCC7 to VBAT?

Is VRTC need to connect AM335x (even if I am not using internal RTC of processor)?

Yes VCC7 is an needed from PMIC to boot up properly. It has to be powered first.

It will depend what is powering the RTC of the processor. it can be PMIC or some external LDO. Also, you need to make sure that if you connect VRTC to AM335x RTC then use the EEPROM configuration where VRTC LDO is in full power mode when PMIC is in off state. Please refer to the users guide on Ti.com
