LM25118: Design review request.

Part Number: LM25118

I recently made a board that takes 10-24 V in to 12 volt out. It worked, but Recently I took the same board layout and put it on a bigger board, and the output now breaks down at 2.5 amps.

Here is the Voltage waveform when trying to pull 2.5 Amps:

Here is the schematic and pdf of top and bottom:

Sorry if it is difficult to read.

  • Hi Josh,

Thanks for reaching out via the e2e forum.
So if I understand correctly, the first design worked without issues, but when transferring the layout onto a different board, the device shuts down at loads of 2.5A, correct?
Can you tell me the maximum output power the design needs to achieve? (2.5A or higher?)

We have a quickstart calculator for the LM25118 device:

Could you cross check your design with this calculator to see if any recommendation vary strongly between design and calculator?
I always recommend using a quickstart calculator if available, as the equations take more inputs than the webench models, which often makes it more accurate.

Also, where there any significant layout modification when switching from the first to the second board?

Thank you very much and best regards,
    Niklas
