TPS1HB08-Q1: PWM EN

Part Number: TPS1HB08-Q1

Hi team,

For TPS1HB08-Q1, can we use 10KHz PWM to EN TPS1HB08-Q1? If not, what frequency PWM can we support? Thanks!

  • Hi Jiawei,

The max PWM for this device is 2kHz but the duty cycles that are supportable is limited.

We usually recommend a 1kHz frequency to have more flexibility with duty.

  • Hi Shreyas,

Thanks for your reply! Could you kindly what cause the PWM frequency limitation?

  • Hi Jiawei,

A 2KHz frequency results in a time period of 500us. On the datasheet we mention a maximum on delay time of 100us and an off delay time of 100us. The ramp rate is also mentioned but depending on the load the rise time and fall time can take a while as well. It is difficult to give an exact value since the load will determine timing as well.

Therefore, the PWM at these rates is on the border of supportability and duties around 50% are supportable. Any other duties can run the rise of incomplete turn on or turn off. Please note that the PWM here will also look like a trapezoid wave and will be significantly different from the expected square wave output which can have an effect on the duty calculations and average value.

Our devices are meant for DC applications and some low frequency PWM applications. While 2kHz may be supportable, the effective use case is severely limited.

    Thanks,

    Shreyas
