BQ25895M: CP2102N-A02-GQFN28 or other MCUs with USB (USB-UART Bridge) in parallel to Charger D+ and D- lines

Part Number: BQ25895M

Hello,

I have a project where I need a USB-UART Bridge (CP2102N-A02-GQFN28) to program and communicate with the MCU over USB. In a second project I use a  MCU (ESP32-S3) with integrated USB functionality. In both cases I want the BQ25895M, but I am pretty sure that the USB datalines of the two devices cannot be mereged that easily. Can please someone explain how to do that :-)

Best regards from Germany!

  • Hello Florian,

Thank you for reaching out via E2E. The D+/D- lines are used for USB input type detection when VBUS is plugged in. During the charger input detection process the host must be able to HiZ D+/D- so that D+/D- can be driven by the charger. Depending on if HVDCP detection is enabled or not the max time input detection will take is approx. 2 sec.

The charger will return the D+/D- pins to HiZ after VBUS comes up and the datelines can be used for other purposes.

    Regards,

    Garrett
