TPS3828: Aging and temperature change of Tout

Hi,

Please tell me about aging deterioration and temperature change of watchdog timeout.

Device: TPS3828 (Time Out: 0.9 ~ 2.5s)
・It was originally supposed to take 0.2s to clear, but due to a software error it took 1.2s.
・No defects in customer board production for 1 year (probably WDT was less than 1.2s)
・3 market defects this year (estimated to be 1.2s or less individuals. Possibility of lot dependence?)

Does Watch Dog Time Out change due to aging (deterioration) or temperature changes?
(Is it correct to assume that there is almost no change due to variation in individual differences?)

Customers should consider market impacts and countermeasures. So I would like you to answer this question.

    (probably WDT was less than 1.2s) --> (Probably WDT is 1.2 seconds or more)

    For a timeout watchdog, a pulse has to be inputted within the timeout period, in your case the typical value is 1.6s with max at 2.5s and min is .9s. The period duration is dependent on design implementation, manufacturing variation and temperature. The datasheet value takes these to account in its values with some buffer for aging as well.

    Please tell me a little more.

    Customers are concerned about changing characteristics of products on the market.

    It is easy to assume that products on the market change due to temperature, but do they also change over time?
    I assumed that the relatively large range (0.9 to 2.5 seconds) of the timeout specifications in the data sheet was due to an initial error. If this customer's perception is incorrect, I need to warn the customer.

  • Hi Hiroshi,

    Yes, there is device degradation due to time, but that's more towards thousands of hours of operation time. Depending on the usage and environment of the device, this life cycle maybe shorten or extended. The major factor that affects the range is temperature, for the TPS3828 for example, it is rated for -40C to 125C, so the wide range of WD timeout can be observed if the device is tested across the range of temperature.
