BQ76942: Questions about BQ76942's Sleep Mode

Part Number: BQ76942

Hi, TI expert

The customer is using BQ76942 and has some questions.

It has a separate structure for BMS and MCU.

We do not use OTP and initialize the BMS during boot-up for operation.

However, it seems to enter Sleep mode approximately 30 seconds after losing communication with the MCU.

We are in the process of authentication, but when trying to conduct tests on the battery pack alone, it stops functioning approximately 30 seconds after communication is lost.

Q1) I want to keep it alive continuously... Is there a way? (For authentication testing...)

Q2) Can it charge and discharge without communication when entering Sleep mode?

Please check. Thank you.

  • Hi Grady,

The device enters SLEEP mode when the magnitude of the current falls below a user defined threshold. SLEEP mode can be completely disabled by clearing (0) the Settings:Configuration:Power Config [SLEEP] bit.

Setting (1) Settings:FET:FET Options [SLEEPCHG] will allow the CHG FET to be turned on by the charge pump while the device is in SLEEP mode.

The DSG FET uses the charge pump by default in SLEEP mode, however you may make sure that it is not configured for source-follower mode by checking that the Settings:FET:Chg Pump Control [SFMODE_SLEEP] bit is cleared (0).
