TPS65320D-Q1: combining (or-ing) outputs

Part Number: TPS65320D-Q1

Hello team

could you please take a look on my customers  question and comment on possibility combining the outputs

From what I understand they want to use the BUCK and the LDO for the same rail and basically turn off the BUCK if the system goes into sleep mode.

I could imagine they can or-ing the outputs together (diodes) but not short them straight forward

Customer:

I found this interesting PMIC (TPS65320D-Q1) on your website.

I have a couple of questions,

  1. Is it possible to short the outputs of the PMIC (Buck and LDO) together? so that when our system is in normal mode we will be using the Buck, while when we are in sleep mode we will be supplied by the LDO to improve the sleeping current.

Thanks!

Kind regards

  • Hi Dierk,

I think this should be possible as you describe using diodes to or the outputs, but we are not aware of anyone trying something like this so I would advise they test this out on an EVM. Since there will be a diode in the buck output path, they may need to consider this since this may add additional inductance between the output capacitor and the load.

    Best regards,
