TPS65261: Maximum operating temperature | Thermal simulation

Hi Team,

When we are doing thermal simulation. using the IC without heat sink. we get the below values

1. Board temperature : 91.3degreeC

2. Case temperature : 91.493degreeC

3. Junction temperature : 91.934degreeC

Here Junction temperature is passing.

But operating temperature is shown as

Is this okay? Should we need to consider operating temperature Ta for the case?

Ambient temperature taken for simulation is 35degreeC

Also device is in a mechanical unit

Hi Felix,

From my understanding, you already considered the ambient temperature in your simulation. When the ambient temperature is 35C, simulated junction temperature of the device is ~92C. From the datasheet, we would recommend junction temp < 125C; ambient temp<85C.

Please also kindly test thermal performance with actual board to make sure junction temp not exceed 125C.

So do we only need to look at the junction temperature(<125 degreeC) only for the case and board?

Hi Felix,

Yes, please check device junction temp and make sure it's not exceed 125C; For ambient temp, it's recommended not exceed 85C.
