TPS92520-Q1: What happened if Tj higher than 150C but lower than 175C?

Part Number: TPS92520-Q1

Hello expert,

I found in the datasheet that Absolute Maximum Junction temperature is 150C, but the Thermal shutdown threshold is 175C(Typ), so what happened if Tj higher than 150C but lower than 175C? In my protect MCU read the device temperature register as 155C, but no thermal shutdown happened. Is there any risk for this device?

  • Hello Zhiyuan,

At temperatures above 150C the part will not be able to meet specifications outlined in the datasheet.  It will likely work but not well.  Thermal warning (TW) bit is set in the STATUS3 register when the junction temperature exceeds the threshold programmed by TWLMT[9:2].  At that point you can have your micro dictate what to do.  It allows you make is a system level decision.
