TLV431B: TLV431B is Type A or Type B of IEC 61800-5-2?

Part Number: TLV431B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV431,

Dear team,

The customer want to get function safety certification for their application.

Currently they are using TLV431BQDBZR at their application.so they would like to know if TLV431 is Type A or Type B of in the IEC61800-5-2 specification.

I know type A is non programmable category, type B is programmable category.

Depending on which category our device belongs to, the documents requested by the authenticator like TUV will vary.

Please let me know your opinion.

Thank you.

  • Hello,

What is their application for TLV431? The automotive rated TLV431BQDBZRQ1 includes more qualification according to AEC Q100.

    https://www.ti.com/quality-reliability-packaging-download/report?opn=TLV431BQDBZRQ1

Type A subsystems have the failure modes well defined, where the behavior under fault conditions is determined and there is enough failure data to claim that the failure rates are met. Conversely, type B subsystems are more complex subsystems where the failure modes are not fully defined, the fault conditions cannot be completely determined, and there is not enough data to support that the failure rates are met.

As not all of the failure modes for this part are defined by TI, the customer will need to test this device in their application to determine their application specific failure modes. This will need to be done to determine if the system is type A or B.

    Best,

    Walter

  • Hello Walter,

    Thank you for your comment.

The customer application motor driver with STO function. They are using TLV431 for OV detection function. so they can't change device at this time.

The customer's question is whether the TLV431 is a programmable IC or a non-programmable IC to determine whether their application is Type a or Type B.

I think TLV431B is non-programmable IC. Please let me know your opinion for double confirm.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

Yes the TLV431 had no digital programmable circuitry.

    Thanks,

    Walter
