BQ24172: 2s cell configuration

Early we have used BQ24172 to charge 2p 3.7v battery by setting battery voltage as 4.2V.

No we want charge 2s 3.7v battery with same circuit. For that, I just have set battery voltage as 8.2v and thats it right. Is there anything I have to take care.

Hi Akilarasan,

Correct. That is the only change needed to the BQ24172. The applied input voltage must be greater than 8.4V and must be able to provide 8.4V*ICHG/VIN output current.

Similarly In our design we used BQ27220 battery gauge for that 2p battery. But now we can't use that as it for single cell configuration.

So, Is there any gauge with similar pin to pin functionality as BQ27220 which can be used for 2s battery configuration?

Hi Akilarasan,

I am not sure we have a pin to pin 2S compatible with the BQ27220. The BQ27426 and BQ27427 have a similar pin to pin functionality. The BQ27426 is a 1S, but there's an app note on how to make it work for 2S.

For 2S gauges we have:
BQ28z610 (Impedance Track algorithm)
BQ28z620 (Impedance Track Algorithm)
BQ40z50-R2 (Impedance Track algorithm) - up to 4S
BQ4050 (CEDV algorithm) - up to 4S
