Hi all,

My customer obtained and submitted the lead battery charge/discharge log,

but an error occured.

The error was that Hr-rate was higher than 12 (Hr-rate=17.1519...)

I thought the battery is identified as a Li-ion battery.

Do I need to specify the type of battery?

Also, where can I do?

I think the follwing parts change depend on the type of battery.

Is it only thing that taper current changes depending on the type of battery?

Hi Ryusuke,

Yes, taper current and discharge rate. Some batteries also require a longer relax period.

Hi Evan,

My customer uses 2 lead-acid battery called FML12170.

(FM12170 capacity is 17Ah)

So they set Numcellseries to 2. Is this part wrong?

Hi Fukunaga,

For Lead Acid batteries there are 2V per cell so for example for a 12V battery pack the number of cells should be 6.

Since you have two 12V batteries in series the number of cells should be 12.

I also think you may be charging too quickly. I would change the number of cells and verify you are charging and discharging at the correct rate.

The charging current is C/2.

Is it possible to obtain log reliably at C/3?

Hi Fukunaga,

Sorry for the mistake, what I meant to say is "I also think you may be discharging too quickly. I would change the number of cells and verify you are charging and discharging at the correct rate".

I believe for Lead-Acid it is C/20. Charge rate should be specified in the battery datasheet.

1) The nominal capacity of the battery (FML12170) is 17Ah.

Assuming C/20 is 850mAh, is this discharge current high?

What value should be the discharge rate?

I would like you to let me know so that I don't have to acquire Log repeatedly.

850mAh is a good discharge current for a 17ah Lead Acid battery.

No, it is no required to be C/20.

Discharge current was 850mAh and obtained log, but there was no ChemID within 3% error.

Send log data, config file and the GPC report.

Hi Ryusuke,

I reviewed your discharge curve, and it looks good. Unfortunately, we do not have a ChemID that matches your battery profile to achieve a DOD% error of 3% or less.

If you would like to ship us your battery, we can characterize it in our labs here in Dallas for you. If you would like to do this, contact your supporting FAE or contact your local TI office.

Another option is switching to the BQ34110. It is pin to pin with the BQ34z100 but uses CEDV to gauge rather than Impedance Track.

Hi Ryusuke,

I do not recommend proceeding with a DOD% error of more than 3%. Your customer will experience SOC error. The learning cycle will not correct this error.

If the 6% DOD error is the best match your customer got from the GPCChem tool, then I suggest getting a custom ChemID for their battery cells.

I understand your recommendation. But my customer is doing trial and error.

My customer tried to write Chem ID with a DOD% error of more than 6%.

But I could not write the error code 1721 as shown below.

Do you know the cause and meaning of this error code?
