BQ25157: Other Packages

Part Number: BQ25157
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25181, BQ25620, , BQ25750

Hello,

We are using this component in a design of ours but the implementation of a BGA is rather difficult. Is this component available in other packages aswell?

Thank you in advance.

With kind regards,

Jordi

  • Hi Jordi,

The BQ2515x family of devices are only available in BGA packages. Perhaps, we can identify a charger with a different package that can still fulfill your requirements. What are the main care-abouts for your design?

  • Hi Juan,

    Thank you for your response.

I'm gonna be honest, we need nearly all the features of the BQ2515. Just the LDO is not important.

I²C is important to set min and max current/voltages; we need at least 1.5A from the battery to the PMID; we want to be able to turn off the battery; we want temperature measurement and an ADC.

Any other IC that can provide all these features?

    thanks in advance.

  • Hi Jordi,

The BQ25181 and BQ2518x family of devices provide a lot of the same charger related configurability with similar current capabilities as the 15x, although it does not provide an ADC. If you require an ADC then that is the only family of linear chargers which provides one.

If you would be open to a switching charger (using BUCK rather than linear regulator) then the BQ25620 provides similar configurability with an ADC, in a larger solution size.

Otherwise the BQ25157 is the best bet, but it does not come in other packages unfortunately.

  • Thank you for your insights!

  • Any chance there is a version of this BQ25620 IC that can go to 30V input?

  • Hi Jordi,

There isn't really a version that goes to such a high input. The next step up is typically going to be a much larger, higher power charger for multi-cell packs such as the BQ25750.
