LM5051: How to buffer LM5051 GATE pin to drive FET gate which has large Qg?

Part Number: LM5051

Hello guys,

This is a similar question with the following URL.
https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management-group/power-management/f/power-management-forum/1252552/lm5050-1-how-to-buffer-lm5050-gate-pin-to-driver-fet-gate-which-has-large-qg/4741039#4741039

One of my customers is considering using LM5051 for their next products.
Also they are considering using 4pcs of FET(ISC027N10NM6) with parallel connection as FETs connected to GATE pin of  LM5051

ISC027N10NM6

At this moment, they have the following questions.
Could you please give me your reply?

Q1.
How to buffer LM5051 GATE pin to drive 4pcs of FET(ISC027N10NM6) connected in parallel?
Is it not recommended to use 2x LM5051 devices in parallel for faster turn ON of the FETs.

Q2.
Do you have any recommended device can drive 4pcs of FET(ISC027N10NM6)?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

Best regards,
Kazuya.

  • Hi Kazuya,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

LM5051 can drive parallel FETs without any external circuit. You just need to tie their gates together. It is not recommended to use 2x LM5051 as only one of the will be turned on at a time and your current will not be shared.

"Do you have any recommended device can drive 4pcs of FET(ISC027N10NM6)?"

All of the Ideal diode controllers in our portfolio can drive parallel FETs, only difference will be in their gate current due to which turn on time will vary. Please let me know your voltage rating and required features so that we can help you with it.

    Thanks and Regards
