LM5148-Q1: Protection Circuit Design

Part Number: LM5148-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5148, LM5149-Q1EVM-400

Hi Team,

This is regarding the buck converter Protection Circuit Design.

Input Voltage: 40V-60V

Output Voltage: 13.8V

Output Current: 10A (max)

Switching Frequency: 460-500kHz

Gate Voltage: 4.8V (when measured)

I have Designed an Overvoltage protection Using basic Crowbar Design for both Input as well as Output Using A Single SCR. There are other protection requirements like Overcurrent/Short Circuit Protection as well as Over Temperature protection. I am Stuck at thow to design the Overcurrent/ Short Circuit Protection. It would be helpful if there any low cost Solutions for the Over Current or Short Circuit Protection Regarding this Application.

Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi,

Let me try to find the engineer for this device and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

    Thanks

  • Mahankali,

LM5148 has OCP and hiccup mode for SCP protection in its current limit feature.

Just size the current sense resistor, ~4mΩ to for a 10A design.

We have thermal shutdown but only for the IC temperatures, for the FET temperatures you will need an external temp sensor to trigger and control the EN pin.

I suggest you start by evaluating EVM LM5149-Q1EVM-400.

    Hope this helps,
