BQ40Z50-R1: BQ40Z50-R1 FUSE design

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1

Hi

I have a query need your help.

The FUSE pin is directly connected to GND, when used on the client, the cell voltage is about 14.7V, and the communication is normal. However, after disconnecting the communication between the host system and gauge about 20s, no output voltage. After connecting to the system communication, FUSE is still set, then reset and clear the FUSE, the output is normal; after repeatedly disconnecting the communication between the host system and gauge for 20 seconds, there is still no output.

After pulling the FUSE pin to ground through the pull-down resistor 270K, the above symptoms do not occur.

Why does this issue occur after direct grounding? This problem can be solved by connecting a resistor of more than 200K in series to the ground.

Waiting for your reply.

Thanks

Star

  • Hello Star,

If the FUSE pin is not being used then it should be pulled down to ground. If the FUSE pin is not being used and is not grounded then the pin
is floating which can cause issues like the issues you are seeing.

    Sincerely,
    Nick Richards

  • Hi Nick

    Thanks for your reply.

    If the FUSE directly connected to GND, after disconnecting the communication about 20s, no output voltage. Recover communication, FUSE is set, after reset command the FUSE was cleared, the output is normal;

After FUSE pin connecting 270K resistor to ground, the above symptoms do not occur.

Why does this issue occur after direct grounding? This problem can be solved by connecting a resistor more than 200K to the ground.

    Waiting for your reply.

  • Hello Star,

I believe I fully understand your problem now. I will need some time to consult other members on my team
about this. I should hopefully get back to you soon.

    Sincerely,
    Nick Richards

  • Hello Star,

If possible, can you send a .gg file from the gauge when you are doing thses tests.
I want to check that the fuse pin is actually disabled in the settings for the gauge.
If it is, then FUSE_EN should be set to 0.

    Sincerely,
    Nick Richards

  • Hey,

I checked the gg file and confirmed that FUSE_EN is set to 0. Other on the team including myself are very uncertain about why this is happening. This might  need to be brought to the attention of the design team however my hypothesis is that this has to deal with the internal pull up resistor for that pin.

    Regards,
    Nick Richards
