HD3SS3220: USB-C SuperSpeed Mux, DFP

Part Number: HD3SS3220

Hi,

according 'HD3SS3220 DFP Dongle Evaluation Module' we are about to make our own design.

Could you please review attached schematics and provide feedback?

Please have a close look at

- SSRX/SSTX from USB-B 3.0 through the Mux to the USB-C 3.0

- are these capacitors on the correct lines: C104, C107. C108, C109, C110, C111 ?

- setting of direction (ID, !EN_MUX, CCS1 and CCS2) ?

Thanks for your valuable opinion.

Best regards

Reto

  • Hi Reto,

I reviewed your schematic and attached my comments in the pdf file below. There weren't any issues that I saw.

    SSRX/SSTX from USB-B 3.0 through the Mux to the USB-C 3.0

It is ok to route SSTX to the SSRX pins on the MUX, as long as the correct channel is connected on both sides. You have SSTX connect through the RX pins on the MUX, which is ok because you connect the RX1/2 pins to SSTX1/2 on the Type-C connector. Our EVM does the same routing.

    are these capacitors on the correct lines: C104, C107. C108, C109, C110, C111 ?

These are correct. You are AC coupling one side of the MUX on both the TX path and the RX path. This is ok to do and is reflected in the design of the 3220 EVM.

    setting of direction (ID, !EN_MUX, CCS1 and CCS2) ?

You've connected CC1 and CC2 correctly to the Type-C connector. Routing ID to the EN_MUX pin is ok, because ID will go low when a connection is made and enable the MUX.

    Best,

    Shane

  • Hello Shane

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback!

We'll go ahead and make a PCB. It will tell us, if we overlooked something - keep fingers crossed.

    Best regards
