TPS25947: Output current issue

Part Number: TPS25947

Hi,

We are using TPS259470A version of the part in our design. In one of the boards, the load switch operation is not as expected. We have programmed the current limit around 1.5A minimum. Our input voltage is 3.3V. When we connect a load corresponding to 1.5A, the load switch output voltage is dropping down to 3V and output current is around 1.2A. We have conducted this test with external power supply as input source and set the current limit to 1.7A. This is not a design issue because this happens with only one board. We are not able to conclude whether the loadswitch IC is damaged or not.  We appreciate your inputs.

  • Hello Saravana,

From your provided info it's hard to judge for us, what is wrong. How many boards do work and how many are failing?

A good tip is that an ABA swap to see if the error follows the device. If we swap the device with a working EVM and repeat the test you can also see if this issue might be layout related.

  • Hello Frank,

    Thanks for quick response.

The issue is with just one board. The same load switch part on other boards is working fine.

As suggested, we will check with ABA test.

  • Hi Saravana,

Looks like device current limit is on lower side due to part to part variation so it is detecting current limit at lower value.
