REF3030: Output capacitor

Part Number: REF3030
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: REF3012,

Hello team,

I am confused about the bypass capacitor for this device.

On datasheet 9.1 Application Information, it says REF30xx doesn't need output cap, and showing 0.47uF input cap.
However, on Layout Guidelines, it says to put 0.1uF input cap, and seems like output cap is also connected.

  • Do I need output cap or not?
  • Should I connect 0.47uF ro 0.1uF for input cap?

Also on datasheet section 9.1, it says that "REF30xx does not require a capacitor on the output." and becareful when using Low ESR or high capacitance.
But it also says to use low-ESR cap of 10uF or less for RES3012.

  • Why only REF3012 is recommended to use low-ESR cap, but others are not recommended?

What if I am connecting load with a 10uF input cap? It will look like REF3030 is connected with 10uF output bypass cap.

  • Can I use REF3030 like on the figure below?

Best Regards,
Kei Kuwahara

  • Hello Kei Kuwahara,

An output cap is not required for any REF30xx variants. I would suggest a 0.47 µF input capacitor. If you would like to use an output capacitor, low-ESR output capacitors are recommended for all variants of REF30xx.

Can I use REF3030 like on the figure below?

Please include a 0.47 µF input capacitor. Other than that, I see no issues with the configuration you've showed.

    Thanks,

    Jackson
