BQ24075: direct replacement of BQ24230

Dear Mr./Mrs.:

I would like to know if the BQ24075 IC is a direct repalcement of the BQ24230 with PIN15 connected to VSS on both cases.

    Hi Pere, 

    BQ24075 will function with pin 15 connected to VSS, but some operational defaults are not the same on the BQ24230 compared to the BQ24075. I recommend you compare the device comparison tables in each datasheet. For both BQ24230 and BQ24075 the device comparison table is located right before the Pin Configuration section. As an example, on BQ24075 Vout(reg) is 5.5V whereas it is 4.4V on BQ24230. 

    Based on this I would say BQ24075 is not a direct replacement for BQ24230.

    BQ24073 on the other hand is a good replacement option for the BQ24230, but please keep in mind there are still some minor differences. For example, ISET acceptable resistor range is different on BQ24073 than on BQ24230.

    Thanks for the feedback. In this case, the BQ24074 would be more suitable as a replacement because Vout values are the same. However, when pin15 is connected directly to VSS (RLIM=0), what is the ILIM for the BQ24074? Many thanks in advanced

    I am not sure what information you are referring to when you say BQ24074 is closer to BQ24230. Referring to page 6 of the BQ2407x datasheet BQ24073 has the exact same voltage values as BQ24230 and pin 15 is the same function on BQ24073 as BQ24230. Pin 15 is not the same function on BQ24074. 

    Based on this I still believe BQ24073 is the more suitable replacement option.
