CSD16570Q5B: MOSFET topology for high current application

Part Number: CSD16570Q5B

Like IMVPs, I would like to change the current flow from 0-600amps depending on the input voltages. My requirements are to have a mosfet with very low value of Rds within a maximum range, which helps with providing high current for a range of input voltages.

Need some guidance with a topology of mosfets in parallel to achieve this functionality. The idea is to have a set of parallel mosfets to work for 0-200amps range and by a combination with another set for 200-400amps range and so on.

  • Bhuvaneshwari,

Thanks for your interest in our MOSFETs.

I am not sure what you are referring to with "like IMVPs" is this a reference to a microprocessor power specification?

Can you provide more detail on what you need and when our main applications expert gets back in the office tomorrow he can have a look.

I am not sure if you are looking to do some sort of switching supply like a multiphase synchronous buck , if this is the case then I would highly recommend you take a look at our multiphase ICs and power stages, an example  reference design is here: https://www.ti.com/tool/TPS536C7EVM-051?keyMatch=&tisearch=search-everything&usecase=hardware

Or is this a DC load switch like ORing or Hotswap, where you would need to parallel numerous FETs to handle to current/power.

If you could please provide some more information and I will look to see how we can best help you.

    Many Thanks

    Chris Bull

  • Hello Chris Bull,

Thanks for your response, IMVPs referring Intel Mobile Voltage Positioning, where the processor voltage (VCC) is dynamically adjusted, based on the processor activity, to reduce processor power. So, with reference to that I need to implement a set of parallel mosfets to achieve to output 0-600amps with faster switching rate based on the input voltage ranging between 1-3V. As mentioned previously I need a topology for this functionality.

  • Bhuvaneshwari,

Just for reference the CSD16570Q5B is not for fast switching applications like a buck converter, the best low voltage high current type solutions are devices from the products associated with the reference design I mentioned before.

I am going to redirect this thread to that group as I think they would be best served to help you with your 600A low voltage requirement.

The industry uses a multiphase synchronous buck approach to these high current fast switching/transient type applications. If you are not familiar with multiphase buck converteres there is an article here that TI wrote: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slyt449/slyt449.pdf , this article details the benefits. It shows a 2 phase design but controllers are capable of many more phases to deliver these extremely high currents.

    Many thanks

  • Hi Bhuvaneshwari,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

I am Abhishek and I work in multiphase power solutions for high current applications.

We have complete solution from the controllers to the smart power stages (up to 16 phases). As, Chris has already shared you the concept behind multi-phase designs, please have a look at it and let me know your exact specifications as to what are your exact specifications and we can further help you. Meanwhile, you can look at products such as CSD95410, which could potentially be used in your application.
