TPS54360: vin short to ground, any advise

Part Number: TPS54360
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: STRIKE

HI Sir

share the schematic for you, the tps54360 was short in vin & ground

did you have any adivse?

thanks

  • Hi Alex,

Thank you for posting. Do you mean the VIN pin is shown grounded? Please check the following components.

    1. if NTC2 is open?

    2. If any input capacitors is short?

    3 if F4 is open?

    4. If L4 is open?

    5. If anything else placed across 36V-IN node and GND is short?

If all of above do not fail, then the IC is damaged. Which can occur during mishandling like ESD strike.  Replace the IC and pay attention to avoid ESD damage.

    Thanks,

    Youhao

  • hi Youhao

many short part back to FA, vin short to ground, or Vout short to ground

    did you have any advise?

    thanks

  • Hi Alex,

Sorry I am confused.  What to you mean by "many short part back to FA"?

If Vout shorts to GND, it will either be an PCB error, or the IC is damaged.

Can you remove the IC and recheck these spots, to see if there is an PCB error?

    Thanks,

    Youhao

  • HI Youhao

the TPS54360 be design as a power module

we get many power module fail, any found the ic is short between VIN & Ground , or Vout & Ground

    Did you have any advise?

    thanks

  • Hi Alex,

Do you mean those modules were failed on arrival, before they were installed on customer's boards, or they failed after operating for sometime on the boards?  Is there any FA report (email me the QEM numbers)?

    Thanks,

    Youhao
