LMG2610: Buck converter

Hi,

We need to design a Buck converter with the following specs:

Vin 400VDC

Vout adj. 250VDC to 350VDC

Iout  1.7A max@350VDC, less at lower voltages 

Would you recommend LMG2610 for this particular design?  What would be the max switch freq we could reasonably expect to achieve in that case? And If not recommended any other part/parts you can recommend?

    As outlined in Section 8.3.1 of the LMG2610 datasheet, the LMG2610 GaN power FETs are intended to be turned on in either zero-voltage switching (ZVS) or discontinuous-conduction mode (DCM) switching conditions. Regarding device compatibility, if the buck converter can be operated in a manner to abide by the conditions listed above, it would be suitable for the application. 

    Regarding the optimized choice of on-resistance, applications of this power level usually call for on-resistances of a lower value. The LMG2610 on-resistance is 170mohm for the low-side GaN FET and 248mohm for the high-side GaN FET. The high power level would require some thermal analysis to be done to ensure that the device junction temperature is kept at or below the recommended 125C. 

    If you are considering using lower on-resistance devices we would recommend LMG3411R070 or LMG3411R050, which are 70 and 50 mohm devices, respectively. However, these do not offer the level shift + bootstrap integration that LMG2610 offers.
