BQ25181EVM: Has the BQ25181 been discontinued?

Part Number: BQ25181EVM

I've been waiting for the BQ25181 to launch for nearly 18 months. It has been in 'preview' for a long time and was "schedule to go to mass production on 3Q'22." but now the product page gives a 404 error and it's not recognised in the part number search.

Is it dead?

The bq25180 has the same functionality in a BGA package, but with higher thermal resistance I'm concerned it would not be able to handle the power dissipation when charging a depleted LiPo at 1A from a 5V input.

I'm developing a design right now - should I choose something else?

Thanks.

  • Hi Earl,

Yes, the BQ25181 was discontinued, though we are still working on providing a QFN solution similar to the BQ25180. I can't really speak on a timeline at the moment. In the meantime you may want to look at the BQ25185. This is similar to the BQ25180, QFN, except that it is a standalone device.

    Best Regards,
