UCC14240-Q1: IS it possible to use this bias supply for indefinitely long pulse eg: Solidstate relay application

HI,

Would wish to know if the UCC14240 can be used in a SSR type application where the SiC FET is turned on with 20V and turned off with -5V .Here the ON signal will be a continous high signal unlike the PWM .If possible what kind of design considerations we need to account for

Hi Sabah,

UCC14240 is an isolated gate driver bias supply which includes secondary side regulation (SSR). Therefore, the supply voltages +20V and -5V of the gate driver are regulated by the device. When you mention the ON signal do you mean the input voltage of the gate driver? Most of the time, the input signals of the gate driver are PWM signal coming from a microcontroller.

Hi Manuel,

Sorry for the abbreviation ,with SSR i meant Solid state relay.Is this bias supply ok to be used in SiC FETs with relay kind of application where the switches will be on for indefinite time unlike the pwm
