TPS92200: 5v input 1.5a output

Part Number: TPS92200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54200, TPS92201

Hello,

On page 26 of the docs there is an example schematic - Figure 8-26. 5-VIN, 1-A, 1-piece IR LED, Analog Dimming Reference Design

A) Are there any components that would need changing in this schematic increase the output to 1.5A; apart from changing the sensing resistor to 66mohms?
B) Are there any components that would need changing in the schematic to allow a 12v input rather than the described 5 V ±10% VIN? I don't think there are but it is unclear to me why the docs don't describe a wider VIN in the table

Many thanks,

Sam

  • Similarly, is there any reason to use the TPS92200 with a 5v input rather than the older TPS54200?

  • Hi Sam,

For 5V input voltage and 1.5A output current, 1-piece IR-LED condition, I would recommend you consider using our latest driver TPS92201.

For 12V input voltage and 1.5A output current, 1-piece IR-LED condition, you can use TPS92200.

The datasheet should contain enough information on how to design the circuit to fit your application.

  • Thanks Steven,

For my 12v system I will use the TPS92200 and use the schematic in the datasheet Figure 8-1. 12-VIN, 1.5-A, 2-piece IR LED, Analog Dimming Reference Design. I have two minor changes, I want to use the TPS92200D2 rather than TPS92200D1 and I am only using 1 SFH 4727AS 1.5a LED not two, do I need to change the schematic in Fig 8-1 because of either of these changes, it doesnt look like it?

For my 5v system, I will use the TSP92201 and use the schematic in the datasheet in Figure 8-1. TPS92201 400 mA Output Application - To change this to a 1.5a output I think I need to change the sense resistor to 66mohm but make no other changes, is this correct?

    Thanks again for your help,

    Sam

  • Hi Sam,

For my 12v system I will use the TPS92200 and use the schematic in the datasheet Figure 8-1. 12-VIN, 1.5-A, 2-piece IR LED, Analog Dimming Reference Design. I have two minor changes, I want to use the TPS92200D2 rather than TPS92200D1 and I am only using 1 SFH 4727AS 1.5a LED not two, do I need to change the schematic in Fig 8-1 because of either of these changes, it doesnt look like it?

You need to change the schematic since the load condition is different and you may have other spec requirements that are different from the datasheet. Section 8.2.1 TPS92200D1 12-V Input, 1.5-A, 2-Piece IR LED Driver With Analog Dimming from the datasheet provides an example on how to design the circuit.

For my 5v system, I will use the TSP92201 and use the schematic in the datasheet in Figure 8-1. TPS92201 400 mA Output Application - To change this to a 1.5a output I think I need to change the sense resistor to 66mohm but make no other changes, is this correct?

For TPS92201, please raise a new E2E question regarding this part and the corresponding engineer will help you. Thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Steven
