BQ27421-G1: does it require new golden image file to be download if battery change to new one

Part Number: BQ27421-G1

HI..

One of my cusotmer has used BQ27421-G1 in their product, they are facing strange issue.

They have generated the golden file & able to download to guage as well but once they remove the battery then golden image file is no longer storing  in device & again they have to downlaod the same. Now considering this behaviour in field after few years if their end cusotmer has to change the battery then how to download the golden image file?

Pls. help out with the solution, that how to store the golden image file into processor/ controller memory & when to download the golden image file into gauge? Is it during every power up or when battery is replaced?

If entire file needs not be download then what are the parameters needs to set for new battery?

Need complete details for Gauge device.

Mitesh

  • Hello Mitesh,

The BQ27421-G1 is a ROM gauge. The behavior you are describing is the expected behavior of the gauge. Whenever the gauge is power cycled or restarted, then all of the parameters of the gauge will revert to the default values. You will have to reload the customized parameters back to the gauge whenever the gauge is power cycled or restarted. Please see the following image taken from the Quickstart Guide for the BQ27421-G1 Gauge

In the field you can have a host check the ITPOR bit, and if the ITPOR bit is set, then this would indicate that the gauge has been power cycled or reset, and you can have the host re program the golden image onto the gauge.

    Jonny.

  • We use a Cortex M controller as host, can anyone describe how the golden image can be loaded to the host, so that later the host can re program the Fuel gauge whenever ITPOR bits are set? If you have a flow diagram on the complete process, that would be really helpful

  • Hello Akshay,

I recommend looking at this application report on Gauge Communication. This document goes over communicating with the gauge using a host controller.

    Jonny.
