Hello,

I would like to add USB / USB-C charge-only (source) ports to a project with existing DC supply rails. It is difficult to sort through all of the options for various USB-PD topolgies, and I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction.

I am looking for a standalone IC that can accept 20-30VDC input, and provide USB-PD negotiation and voltage regulation to the sinking device(s). The goal is a low parts count. I would be interested if there are any dual-channel options. Thanks!

Hi Aaron,

You can also view reference design PMP41083 for USB PD charging solution. The solution includes charger BQ25756 or lower voltage version BQ25756E and PD controller TPS25751. PD negotiations would require some sort of host communication.

Hi Chloe,

Thanks for your reply. There is not a more integrated solution? A controller, a buck, an EEPROM, it all gets very large and expensive quickly.

Hi Aaron,

Are you referring to the USB Battery Charging Spec Rev 1.2 (BC 1.2)?

Our chargers with D+/D- detection can support BC1.2 and other non-standard adapters. Section 8.3.3.3 in BQ25620 datasheet gives a detailed overview. BQ25620 is an example 1S charger and BQ25798 is an example for 1-4S charger.
