TPS25831-Q1: Schematic review for TPS25831-Q1 and HD3SS3212-Q1

Part Number: TPS25831-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25830-Q1,

Hi E2E team,

I would like your assistance in reviewing the schematic. It will be used in Apple CarPlay, MFi application.

I would be very grateful for any feedback you can give. Thanks.

The block diagram is shown as below:

The schematic is shown as below:

  • Hello Caspar,

Of course. I will review the schematic and provide feedback by the end of the week at the latest.

    BR,

    Seong

  • Hello Caspar,

I've reviewed the schematic. Please see feedback below:

    1. Ensure input caps are X5R or X7R.
    2. Ensure Boot capss are X5R or X7R.
    3. To pass MFI VBUS Spec, see this application note.
    4. To pass MFI Overcurrent Protection test, see this application note
    5. The R10608 resistor is for the TPS25830-Q1. Which device are you using? Do you plan to evaluate both devices?
    6. In applications where Vconn support is required, the VCC pin can be over-driven with an external 5-V LDO capable of sourcing at least 300mA.

    BR,

    Seong

  • Hi Seong,

Update the schematic for you. Could you help me double confirm, thanks.

    1. Ensure input caps are X5R or X7R.

Ans: All input caps are X7R.

    2. Ensure Boot capss are X5R or X7R.

Ans: All boot caps are X7R.

    3. To pass MFI VBUS Spec, see this application note.

Ans: RIMON change to 13 kohm

    4. To pass MFI Overcurrent Protection test, see this application note

Ans: Follow the document's design recommendations.

                * Solution for how to pass MFi overcurrent protection test (w/o External FET)

                RILIMIT(R10613) = 11.3 kohm
                RPARA(R10630)= 11.3 kohm
                CPARA(C10610) = 82nF
                Add 330 uF on CSP(C10609)

    5. The R10608 resistor is for the TPS25830-Q1. Which device are you using? Do you plan to evaluate both devices?

Ans: Delete the R1608, the LS_GD pin is floating right now.

    6. In applications where Vconn support is required, the VCC pin can be over-driven with an external 5-V LDO capable of sourcing at least 300mA.

Ans: Adding a external 300 mA LDO for VCC. Output is USBPD_VCC_5V.

The enable of LDO and TPS25831-Q1 are the same. (USB0_PWR_EN_3P3)

  • Hey Caspar,

I will review the updated and provide feedback soon.

    BR,

    Seong

  • Hi Caspar,

    All looks good.

I do not see the LDO. The customer is saying that they will be adding the LDO later, correct?

    BR,

    Seong

  • Hi Seong,

Yes, LDO will be added later, thanks.

    BR,

    Caspar

  • Caspar,

    Sounds good!

I will be closing this thread. Please start a new thread for any other inquiries.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Seong
